Urbanization is the trend and symbol of modern civilization. With the process of industrialization and rapid development of economy, many countries in the world have entered the rapid development stage of urbanization. However, the development in modern times is at cost of environment. As the coin has two sides, the urbanization and ecological environment are closely related with advantages and disadvantages coexisting. Therefore the relationship between the urbanization and environment should be properly treated in order to find the balance with them. From the perspective of sociology, the urbanization is the process of rural lifestyle changing into the urban lifestyle. Development, not the aim but one method, substantially aims to improve people’s living standard and living quality, promote the strengthening of human’s skills personalities, increase the overall development of the human society, thus to achieve the ultimate goal of harmonious development between people and the environment. When the degree of civilization and development is compared, the urbanization is one of the most important symbols. Even though the urbanization brings vigor to the economy and benefits to the modern technology, civilization and life, it cannot deny that it also leads to many problems concerning environment. To some degree, urban, like a center of pollutant, has great influence on the environment. This paper will focus on the environment problems caused by urbanization in China which had a great speed of urbanization in the past several decades. Since the enforcement of Reform and opening up, the urbanization level in China has kept increasing with many migrant workers swarming into the urban which greatly accelerate the urbanization process. When Chinese people celebrate that the prosperity of urban economy promotes urbanization, they have to face some serious social and environmental problems, including environmental pollution, resource shortage, traffic congestion, and social disorder. It is proved by scholars that urbanization in China has influence on climate(Zhou et al., 2004). But there is also saying that urbanization brings benefits to the environment.
