The network theory of internationalization has been suggested by Johansson and Mattson (1988) that explain that the internationalization process that an organization like P&G uses is the result of the gradual learning and internalization of market knowledge through interaction within networks (Bhagwati et al., 1998). The four stages of internationalization that firm like P&G experience are depicted in Figure 2 below
According to the network theory the internationalization process that P&G has been following could be explained by means of the knowledge and the relationship that the firm has established in foreign countries. Perhaps this is the reason that during the early history of the firm the operation of the firm was limited to USA as the first plant of the company outside the country was installed in Canada after fifteen years. However when the company established different networks in other parts of the world, the company was very quick to respond to market opportunities in different parts of the world and in the year 1930 the company established its second plant in UK. Then a series of plants were established in different parts of the world that include Philippine, Puerto Rico, Mexico, China, Saudi Arabia. The company now has operation in more than 140 countries of the world and the organization has not yet stopped race of globalization.
