Essentially during the time of depression, the key to leadership is to remain calm and to look for a solution that could convert the problem of recession into an opportunity. Although different managers uses some shortcuts that enable them to resolve the most pressing issue, however such a solution including layoffs, closure of plants, divestment of certain products, selling off the unprofitable business units should be considered a very short-term approach that are practiced by managers (HBR, 2011). A leader looks at the problem from different angel and uses his or her leadership qualities to convert such problem into opportunity by fostering creativity and innovativeness (Ingle, 2001). Doing things in a different manner although posses some risks, however assuming calculated risks is the key to success in most of the situations. The solution that leader find for solving the organization's problems during the time of depression may not be very attractive, however once such decisions are implemented everyone witness the success that stemmed from the implementation of the solution proposed by a leader. In most of the cases, such decision are made by ensuring the positive commitment and motivation of the members of the organization and rather than basing the decision on hard financial goals, the leader uses qualitative terms and goals that could lead towards the realization of organization's long-term goals and objectives
